We are more than a shelter. We are dedicated to saving lives through Adoption & Rescue.

The Friends of the Simpson County Animal Shelter thanks you for your support in our mission of taking care of all the animals who find themselves in our care.

HOW TO ADOPT FROM US

The Friends of The Shelter reviews each application for our shelter pets with the goal of selecting the best adopter for each animal. How do the individuals interact with the dogs, how do the dogs interact with them? Often, animals will choose their human. Those are true love connections that will last a lifetime. Adoption fees are $95 for dogs ($50 if sponsored). Adoption fees for cats vary, but are generally $50-85 unless sponsored.

The first part of the adoption process is coming to visit the shelter and interacting with the dog/cat. If you have pets and/or children, bring them with you. When adding to the family, it is important that the new pet is a good fit with everyone. We want adoptions to be lasting with lots of love and joy. If there is a love connection, then the next step is filling out an application and an adoption agreement. You can do that at the shelter on the day of your visit. If you are renting, it will speed up the process if you have pre-approval from your landlord to have a pet. Once a selection is made, you will be contacted, given the good news and a time set up for you to take your new family member home.

SPONSOR A SHELTER PET

Not everyone can adopt, but that is not the only way you can help our shelter pets. All animals leave the shelter spayed-neutered, heartworm tested, DA2PPV and Rabies vaccinated, dewormed, microchipped and started on monthly HW & Flea prevention. We are able to do this due to Sponsorships & Donations.

The Fix Foundation works with us with all of our shelter cats through their Simply Cats program. The cats are spayed/neutered, FLV/FIV tested, vaccinated, microchipped and started on flea preventative. The cats are then transported to a Petco or PetSmart habitat where they are adopted. Sometimes, we will have a shelter cat that we don’t think will do well in a habitat environment so they are directly adopted through the shelter.

MEDICAL CARE FUND

Often, our shelter dogs need additional medical care. such as antibiotics to treat an infection, treatment for mange, heartworm treatment, x-rays, or even an amputation. We don’t have funds for this type of medical care and are dependent on donations. We are only able to provide this additional care due to generous support of individuals in and outside of our community. If you’d like to make a donation to our medical care fund, that would be greatly appreciated.

You can make a donation right here on our website or write a check.

  • Write a check payable to “Friends of the Shelter” mailed to P. O. Box 910, Franklin, KY 42135 or drop it off at the shelter.
  • Make a Donation right here on the website

We currently are fundraising for a Special Project. We want to add ten (10) concrete pads with 10′ x 10′ secure kennels for outdoor exercise / break from the small shelter kennels for our dogs. We cannot accomplish this without generous donations from our community.
